Meet Dr. Richman

Gary O. Richman, M.D., FACS

Dr. Gary Richman Gary O. Richman, M.D., FACS is a board certified ophthalmologist who has been in practice in Atlanta since 1967. He attended Emory University, and subsequently received his M.D. degree from the Medical College of Georgia. After two years on active duty in the U.S. Army, he received his ophthalmology training in Detroit at the Henry Ford Hospital and at the Kresge Eye Institute of Wayne State University. He returned to Atlanta in 1967 and set up a solo ophthalmology practice from which he retired in 2007.

Dr. Richman became an instructor in Ophthalmic Surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital and later at the Atlanta VA Hospital. He continued to donate his time to instruct the resident physicians for 35 years. During this period he was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor and later Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Emory University School of Medicine.

For many years Dr. Richman was consultant to the United States Army, Fort McPherson, as well as consultant to the Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. He was also on the Advisory Board to the Georgia Medical Care Foundation. He served two terms as President of the Atlanta Ophthalmology Society, as well as Chief of Ophthalmology and later Chief of Staff of Metropolitan Eye Hospital of Atlanta. He was Section Chief of Ophthalmology at St. Joseph’s Hospital of Atlanta for the five year period 1995-2000, and Chief of Ophthalmology at Northside Hospital from 1998-2000.

Subsequent to his retirement, Dr. Richman continued to see patients for the Ophthalmology department of the Medical College of Georgia at their MCG Associates facility in Greensboro and also volunteers for the Georgia Lions Lighthouse clinics in several North Georgia locations.
