Upper Blepharoplasty can rejuvenate puffy, sagging or tired-looking eyes by removing excess fat, skin and muscle from the upper eyelids. It may be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve sight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient’s field of vision.
When performing upper eyelid surgery, an incision is hidden within the natural fold of the upper eyelid and extends slightly beyond the outside corner of the eye. Excess skin and fatty tissue are removed through this incision. The incision should heal well because it follows the natural contour of the upper eyelid.
Following surgery you will be instructed to rest, keep your head elevated and apply ice to keep swelling and bruising to a minimum. Recovery time varies for individual patients but generally the skin of the upper eyelid heals quickly and you should be able to return to moderate activities within 3 or 4 days. The results of eyelid surgery creates a more youthful, rested appearance. Final results will take several months.
Upper Blepharoplasty is usually considered a cosmetic procedure and therefore not covered by insurance. There are some cases where the upper eyelid skin can be so excessive that it interferes with vision and may be covered by insurance. You will need to provide pictures to your insurance company to find out if you qualify for upper Blepharoplasty surgery.
