Dr. Farzana Virani is a board-certified optometrist who specializes in Ocular Surface Disease and Dry Eye as well as the diagnosis of potential ocular causes of migraines and eye aches. She focuses on improving the comfort and quality of her patients’ day to day lives as well as the appearance of their eyes. Additionally, Dr. Virani routinely treats and monitors for glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts and gives guidance on how often to be seen, prevention and treatment options. She also prescribes autologous serum eye drops as an alternative therapy for dry eye for patients who are interested. Dr. Virani believes in long-term and preventative care and helps patients build the optimal care plan for long-term eye health.
Dr. Virani earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Houston in 2001 and her doctorate in Optometry at The New England College of Optometry in 2005. She trained at Veterans hospitals, South Boston Hospitals, Army bases, and tertiary care centers where she was involved in the treatment of complicated ocular disease, late-stage glaucoma, provided low vision services for macular degeneration patients, and treated amblyopia or “lazy eye” in children. Dr. Virani has natural caretaking abilities and has shown a passion for eye and health care from a very young age. She spent many years caring for loved ones who suffered from various health conditions and ocular diseases including retinal detachments, cataracts, and macular holes.
In her spare time, she has acted in and co-produced independent films, been a member of a standup comedy improv troupe, and performed in stage plays. She is an avid foodie and traveler and has spent significant time at an Ashram learning Yoga and Pranayama breathing. She is happy to share the relaxation techniques she has learned with her patients daily. In 2017, Dr. Virani participated in Dancing Stars of Atlanta and raised over $46,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association. She is also a member of the Alois Society for Alzheimers.
