Dr. Niraj Nathan is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in cataract and glaucoma care.
He is experienced in using technologies intended to help reduce the need for glasses after cataract surgery as well as in techniques to remove more advanced or challenging cataracts. He likes to tailor his surgical approach to each patient and situation.
He is experienced in medical, laser, and surgical treatment of glaucoma, including more traditional surgical techniques as well as newer minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS). Just as in cataract surgery, he likes to tailor his approach to each individual patient and situation. He takes a particular interest in assessing and improving surgical outcomes.
Dr. Nathan was born and raised in Florida. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University. He attended medical school at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN. He then completed a residency in Ophthalmology at the Vanderbilt Eye Institute, where he served as Chief Resident. He completed a fellowship in Glaucoma at Baylor University in Houston, TX.
Following his training, he joined the faculty at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, TX, serving patients at UT Southwestern and Parkland Hospital. At Parkland Hospital, he served as Medical Director of Ophthalmology and then as Chief of Service. There, he was one of the primary attending physicians responsible for training resident and fellow physicians in the clinic and operating room; during his time there, he helped train and supervise over 100 outstanding residents and fellows.
He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Glaucoma Society.
Outside of work, he enjoys sports, music, and spending time with his dog.
